Tom brings nearly 50 years of industry experience to his role as Principal Engineer at Core States Group. He founded Barghausen Consulting Engineers, Inc. in 1982 and led the firm for more than four decades. In 2024, Core States Group acquired Barghausen Consulting Engineers, Inc., continuing its legacy as a leading professional firm. Throughout his career, Tom has been engaged in virtually every aspect of land development, from initial feasibility through entitlements, civil engineering design, and the construction of residential, commercial, and industrial projects. He represents clients in hundreds of public hearings on land-use applications, earning their trust and respect.

Tom’s professional experience extends well beyond his work as a licensed civil engineering consultant. In 1984, he founded Novastar Development Inc., a land development company that produced more than 4,200 residential lots across 61 subdivisions. Two years later, he founded Thomas Construction Co. Inc., a heavy civil construction company that built the infrastructure for both his and his client’s developments before selling the company in 2007.

In his role at Core States Group, Tom primarily manages projects for residential clients while supporting his team in delivering the full range of services required for a successful development.   He is engaged in projects from both a technical and strategic perspective, helping clients navigate complex development challenges to achieve successful outcomes.

Tom places a strong emphasis on mentorship and client relationships.  He believes exceptional service and consistent results are the foundation of long-term partnerships. Tom is committed to mentoring team members and helping them develop the skills needed to succeed in the profession.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys traveling and spending time on the golf course. However, his greatest passion remains the profession he has dedicated his career to. After more than 40 years as President and Founder of Barghausen Consulting Engineers, Inc., Tom continues to bring the same level of commitment and enthusiasm to Core States Group in support of the firm’s clients and the next generation of engineers.
